Khawb-e-Rafu ( Dreams of Mending) Summer 2026

A collaboration with artist and educator Sabba Elahi, this project on embroidery/ mending was held to mark the 80th anniversary of the partition of the Indian subcontinent (in partnership with Rafunama, New Delhi). Held both in person and online, we invited members of the South Asian community to share stitches and stories about borderlands, separation, mending and repair.

Khwab-e-Rafu (Dreams of Mending), is a feminist textile art project in partnership with Rufunaama (New Delhi, India). As a cross-border feminist textile art project, inviting people from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the South Asian diaspora to stitch their dreams of a just, repaired and peaceful future. A future that dares to imagine beyond the scars of Partition and the wounds of ongoing conflict.

Drawing on rafu, a traditional darning practice, the project uses visible mending as both metaphor and method for repairing the growing divides across our nations and borders. This collective artwork will be exhibited in Delhi in August 2026, marking the upcoming 80th anniversary of the Partition.
